Workshop: Technology, Communication, and Living the Covenant

Sponsored by the Church Development Committee, this workshop addressed the need to take seriously all the tools for building communication in our churches.

Listen to Workshop

It called on us to pay attention to each persons preferred "Communication Orientation", honoring these orientations as critical in building relationships and living out the covenantal relationships that make the church. Too many of our churches are "Islands of Churches" in that we are not using well the new technologies of communications for resources sharing, support, and encouragement. This workshop calls us to get back to our churches and pay attention to the importance of our communication approaches and the tools we use to improve those communications.

The picture shows Jim CastroLang leading the workshop and Kate Huey from Local Church Ministries participating on the big screen from Cleveland.

Keynoters Talkback Workshop on Saturday

I don't know about you but the subject makes me wiggle in my seat. I am a progressive. I happen to be a white middle age male -- yet the challenge surrounding the realities of racism cause my discomfort. I want to note the progress in society. I want to brag about how far I have come...my church...my groups....we have come so far in overcoming racism.

Melanie Morrison and Melissa Woo brought to our guts that there is much work to do. This entry includes a 25 minute audio clip from the Saturday Talkback workshop session with Melissa and Melanie. As part of the Annual Meeting Media Group, I was floating from workshop to workshop capturing about 5 minutes of audio from each. When I arrived in this workshop, the discussion was so personal, poignant, challenging, charged, and dynamic that I couldn't leave...thus the last 25 minutes of the workshop is in the following audio clip: Talkback on Racism with Woo and Morrison
